Harenna - Home Honey Facials!

Harenna - Home Honey Facials!
Hi All! Sophie here :) Most of you know that I came across honey during a family visit to the Ethiopian countryside. 🌴 I think everyone after reaching a certain age, finds that inner adventurer in themselves and in 2019 when I was 26, that definitely came out! I remember having a paper calendar on my kitchen wall and I used to check mark my next flight - about 70% of those trips were to Ethiopia!
I would be lying if I said I've always been a fan of honey, mainly because I never knew much about it and we didn't really eat honey much as a family. When I was researching after that, I stumbled across a 2013 article published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology explaining that honey is a supersaturated solution composed mainly of fructose and glucose, and contains skin-loving proteins and amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, and minerals.🧐
Used since ancient civilisations, its antimicrobial properties exert emollient, humectant, and soothing qualities. Its enzymes release natural acne clarifiers, such as flavonoids, hydrogen peroxide and phenolic acid - basically that's some GOOD stuff for your skin.
Antioxidants help accelerate healing and can support the skin’s natural immunity, reinforce the skin’s barrier, as well as help protect the skin from damage and environmental factors. This of course, all depends on the quality of honey obtained and unfortunately, we’re subjected to a lot of processed honey in the western world. I never knew just how sensitive my skin was and I admit, I often ignored clear warning signs and just shrugged them off as being totally normal and something based on 'bad genetics.' This was such a wrong attitude to have and I really couldn't believe
Even though it's definitely a challenge bringing you a high-content raw honey product (shorter shelf lives, logistics, strict storage requirements etc... I'll talk about that in another post), we just wouldn't have it any other way as Harenna is a facial treatment powerhouse in her own right and sometimes you just need to let nature do it's thing!
